A barn containing farm machinery and hay blazed beside the A38 at Trerulefoot yesterday.

Firefighters were alerted shortly after mid-day to the blaze in the barn, which measured 20 x 20 metres.

Sixteen firefighters on three appliances from Liskeard and Saltash found the barn well alight. A fourth fire engine from Bodmin along with two water carriers from Liskeard and Plympton joined the fight.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, one jet and one hose reel to fight the fire, which was out by early afternoon.
