A DEPLETED Salt-ash came away from Priory Park with heads held high after pushing holders Bodmin all the way before unluckily going out of the Throgmorton Cup.

Lee Carew played in goal, with second teamer Owen Pearce slotting into the centre of the Ashes' defence, while their bench consisted of reserve-team players Mark Toms, Scott Wellington and new signing Martin Piper.

That did not stop them taking the first-half honours as only a great tackle from Luke Rundle denied Aaron Cusack, before the Ashes midfielder was taken out by Bodmin goalkeeper Kevin Miller, only for the referee to ignore their appeals for a penalty.
