A FIELD of 61 pairs from across the West Country took part in the Bradleys St Mellion Veterans' Open competition.

High cloud greeted the early teams in the betterball competition, playing off three-quarters handicap, which happily gave way to warm sunshine.

The course was in immaculate condition, with hard and fast fairways and slick greens, and drew compliments from many of the visitors.

The set-up of the course was challenging but offered opportunities for all players irrespective of ability.

The individual scorecards confirmed that the set-up was spot on, as few pairs demonstrated consistency over the 18.
