Callington Town 3, Stoke Gabriel 2

A severely-depleted Callington Town side pulled out all the stops to add the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League's Charity Vase to last season's double.

The Division One West champions – who also clinched the Cornwall Charity Cup last term – overcame their East Division counterparts, Stoke Gabriel, 3-2, at Dobwalls' Lantoom Park ground.

Said player-manager Lee Beer: 'It was very much a pieced-together side, with guys coming up from the second team and a couple of new faces gathered on the day, but didn't they put a great shift in.

'I hope we haven't used up all our good goals so early in the season, because Dan Pethick's free-kick and Kirk Smith's shot were outstanding.
