FRIENDS of the late Phil Broad, the former sports editor of The Cornish Times, are arranging a memorial service in Liskeard to pay tribute to their colleague.
Phil, who had been ill for some time, died at his Woking home last month and representatives from Liskeard Football Club and Liskeard Constitutional Club were among those who attended his funeral in Woking.
However, because so many people were unable to travel to Surrey, his friends, in conjunction with his family and the management of The Cornish Times, have arranged a local farewell.
It will be held at the Parish Church of St Martin in Liskeard at 2pm on Friday, April 10, and will be attended by Phil's widow Sue who worked for many years at Liskeard School, and his married daughters, Michaela and Lisa.
The tributes will be led by Adrian Wilton, the former chairman of Liskeard Football Club, and John Collings, one-time editor of The Cornish Times and now sports editor of the Sunday Independent, who knew and worked with Phil for more than 40 years.
For further details about the service, which will include refreshments in the Church Hall, please contact Dick Collins on Liskeard 01579 345383.
Donations in memory of the life and service of Phil, who worked for The Cornish Times for more than 50 years, were received in aid of the Woking Hospice, which cared for him and supported his family.
These can still be made via the funeral directors, Lodge Brothers, of 48-54 Goldsworth Road, Woking, Surrey GU21 6LE (Tel: 01483 768 942), or on-line, in conjunction with Love2Donate : In Memory, by visiting: http://www.funeral">http://www.funeral-
