Launceston Golf Club staged a late but well-earned surprise as they triumphed in the England Golf Junior Champion Club qualifier held at their home course.

In glorious spring conditions 38 juniors from across the county competed in the event.

Launceston's victory means they will represent Cornwall in the England Golf national finals at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire in August.

With the 2013 winners Truro sat in the clubhouse and looking like they were heading to Oxfordshire, Launceston's Josh Murray-Dustan, playing in the final group on the course, returned an excellent 41 stableford points to lift his club into first place.

Earlier in the day the other Launceston players, Jamie Barton and Christopher Turner, both returned 31 points. Together with Murray-Dustan's 41 this gave the host club a team aggregate total of 103 which beat Truro into second place on 101.

Third individual best score on the day came from Ashleigh Woolaway (China Fleet) on 36 and there was one further 35 for Ewan Warren (St Austell)

On behalf of the winners a clearly amazed Jamie Barton expressed thanks to the club and organisers and particularly his team mate Murray-Dustan.
