IT is probably churlish after a couple of defeats to harp on about bad luck – but for the second successive week, a couple of key umpiring decisions went against the Callington boys from New Road and they also lost captain and inspiring all-rounder Matt Robins to illness.
Vice-captain Jake Libby won the toss and elected to bat first at Ladycross in this top-of-the-table Jolly's Cornwall Cricket League Premier Division clash against Werrington.
He opened along with Joe White but the wicket-keeper had only made half-a-dozen when he was bowled by Sam Hockin, who is in great form after his sizzling performance for the County earlier in the week.
Popes Selowa joined Libby and they put the pressure on Werrington with a fine partnership of 133 before Selowa was caught by Adam Jenkin off the Australian Mike Humphries for a sparkling 71 from as many balls and including 13 fours and a six.
