St Mellion Golf Club ladies’ section latest

The ladies’ start to the season ‘fun day’ was held on Wednesday, March 11.

Teams of three played a stableford with one score to count on holes one to six, two scores to count on seven to 12 and three scores on the final six holes. There were points to gain or lose on some of the holes, including penalties.

The competition was followed by a seasonal quiz compiled by Pam Hughes, plus a draw for foursomes and individual knockouts.

The winners with a healthy score of 82 points were Dee Peake, Linda Radley and Phillipa Bown, four ahead of runners-up Glennis Wootton, Mary Brinsley and Hilda McKinley.

Sue Wenmoth, Karen Cook and Cathryn Braithwaite’s 76 was enough for third, six clear of Wendy Phillips, Pam Hughes and Sally Floyd.

On the same day, a nine-hole Stableford was held which was won by the quartet of Ursula Dunkley, Carole Webb, Viv Kessak and Gill Connor-Reeves with 26 points.

The next Wednesday Stableford a week later was held in sunny conditions with a slight breeze.

Katy Milne’s 29 points were enough for victory on countback from Cathryn Braithwaite, which was the same margin that allowed Hilda McKinley’s 27 to secure third ahead of Karen Cook.

Dee Peake rounded off the top five with a 26.

Carole Webb took the nine-hole Stableford honours with 13 points, three clear of runner-up Hazel Beadle.

A Stableford was also held on Saturday, March 21 which was won by a healthy six-point margin by Linda Radley on 34. Dee Peake’s 28 was enough for second.

The final Wednesday Stableford of the month saw Karen Cook’s 30 enough for victory, two clear of runners-up Cathryn Brathwaite, while the April 1 event was a medal which Cook with a 70 (87-17), four shots clear of Mary Brisnley (99-25).
