Liskeard Athletic 20 Ludgvan 1

Liskeard set a new Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west record at Lux Park today by hitting 20 goals past rock bottom Ludgvan.

The result beat St Dennis’s 16-0 win over Ludgvan and it was unsurprisingly the highest margin of victory in the league this season.

Liskeard’s goals came from James Lorenz (8, including a hat-trick of penalties), Matt Pascoe (4), Sam Rogers (3), Ben Waters (2), Matt Lindsay (2) and an own goal by keeper Simon Mortimer.

Lorenz, not fully fit because of a foot injury, took his season’s tally to 39. His eight goals in a game equalled the record set by Mark Goldsworthy in 2014-15.

Ludgvan, who had no substitutes to call upon, scored a consolation goal with a Jamie Mitchell penalty in the 89th minute.

It was the West Cornwall club’s 18th successive league defeat and they have now conceded 139 goals.

As for Liskeard, they did their job ruthlessly. They were 6-0 up before the half-hour mark, and 8-0 ahead by half-time.

They added another six goals in the first 18 minutes of the second half and another six in the last 18 minutes, including four in five minutes near the end.

Liskeard, unbeaten in the league this season after 15 games, remain second in the table, two points behind Porthleven. The two sides meet at Gala Parc next Saturday.
