Launceston 3 Liskeard Athletic 0

Liskeard crashed out of the Cornwall Senior Cup at the third round stage on Saturday with a poor performance against Launceston at Pennygillam.

Tallan Mitchell gave the home side a deserved 17th minute lead with a fine header and although Liskeard remained in the tie as long as it was only 1-0, they failed to turn possession into goals.

The closest they came was with two Macauley Thorp efforts – one a volley and the other a header – which brought out the best in Clarets goalkeeper Josh Colwill.

And it was no surprise when Launceston’s top scorer, Jordan Walton, doubled their lead in the 75th minute, having been given time and space to finish off from close range.

The goal came as a relief for Walton, who had missed several excellent chances earlier.

Substitute Mike Steele’s excellent strike in time added on rubbed salt into the wounds of Liskeard, who would have conceded several more goals but for wasteful Launceston finishing.

Liskeard had started the tie without top scorer James Lorenz, who suffered a toe injury against Ivybridge Town in midweek. He was introduced for the last 20 minutes and was denied a 74th minute goal by another fine save from Colwill.
