Liskeard Athletic captain Jack Podmore could miss the start of next season after suffering a torn medial cruciate ligament in his right knee on Monday.

Podmore, who recently led the Blues to the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one title, suffered the injury while playing for the Kernow FA XI against St Dennis at Bodmin.

Podmore told the Cornish Times: ‘The only thing I know for sure is that I have a tear on my MCL.

‘I need to have further checks on my anterior curciate ligament, which would be quite painful to do in my current state.’

Recovery time from medial knee ligament tears ranges between one and two months; a tear of the anterior would be more serious. Most professional footballers who suffer the injury are out of action for between nine months and a year.
