A group fighting to keep a disabled football festival alive after funding cuts has been given a cash boost from a leading house builder.

Cornwall Disability Football League has long run monthly festivals in the county to enable disabled footballers to enjoy playing against other teams.

But the FA has now withdrawn funding for the events, leaving them at risk of coming to end.

A group of volunteers have taken it upon themselves to try to raise the money to save the festivals – and Persimmon Homes Cornwall has stepped in with a £1,000 donation.

The donation comes as part of Persimmon Homes Cornwall’s Community Champions scheme, which sees the Launceston-based builder donate up to £2,000 to charities and groups in Cornwall every month.

Nationally, Persimmon has donated almost £500,000 this year alone.
