THE Cornwall Veterans League is inviting applications from Cornish-based football clubs to enter the League and cup competitions.
Currently the format is an 11-strong countywide league where teams play each other once, home or away. Games are normally played on Sundays with an 11am ko.
Matchday squads may contain 16 players, five of which can be between the ages of 35-39, the remainder must be 40 years old and over. Substitutions can be made on a ‘roll on, roll off’ basis.
There are three cup competitions. The League Cup is currently played on a knockout basis.
Teams which are eliminated from the League Cup at the first round stage are entered into the Supplementary Cup which is also a knockout competition.
The other competition is the Knockout Cup, which once again is a round by round competition, but there is no ‘consolation’ for first round losers.
Some teams, who cannot commit to the league, only enter the cups which the Cornwall Veterans League permits.
Last season, at the first round stage of the League and Knockout cups there were 16 teams in each.
Applications must be received before the AGM to League Secretary, Mr Mike Hinks via email downderryroversfc @gmail.com or telephone 07513 489723.
