SALTASH United have been kicked out of this year’s FA Vase for fielding an ineligible player.

The Ashes thought they had advanced into the first round proper of this year’s competition on Saturday after a thrilling penalty shoot-out victory over old rivals Bodmin Town.

They were set for a trip to Wessex League Premier Division high-flyers Brockenhurst on Saturday, October 23, but the Hampshire club will now face Bodmin instead, who have been reinstated into the competition.

The Ashes said in a club statement: “The FA have removed Saltash United Football Club from this season’s FA Vase after an administration error was found to cause a breach of the rules. The outcome was reached after a ’FA hearing’ today felt our mitigation was not suitable.

“Saltash United are very proud to be participants in the FA Cup and Vase each year and therefore deeply regret this outcome.”

The Western League Premier Division outfit now face old rivals Mousehole tomorrow in the Cornwall Senior Cup tomorrow before they meet again on Wednesday night at Kimberley Stadium (7.30pm).
