SALTASH Seconds remain top of the table despite a disappointing defeat at their St Stephen counterparts on Saturday.
The Ashes struggled their way to 91-7 despite Mark Stevens’ 36, before Callum Iles-Wright’s league best of 45 got them to 158 all out.
Saltash had the home side 23-3 with Iles-Wright (2-28) to the fore, however the hosts got over the line thanks to 74 from Sam Dowrick, who was dropped on four occasions by the visitors.
The Ashes, however, still enjoy a 10-point cushion over third-placed South Petherwin Seconds with three games to play.
St Neot Seconds had a day to forget at home to bottom side Grampound Road Thirds.
The visitors were all out for just 96 with Arthur Fox (2-17), Drew Champion (2-25), Stephen Hayes (2-18) and Stephen Rowe (3-17) to the fore, yet they were dismissed for a paltry 73 having been 25-7. Champion (21) and Fox (23) added 36 for the eighth wicket.
Boconnoc Seconds remain on course for promotion from Division Seven after a superb Martin Kendall performance at their Buckland Monachorum counterparts.
He made 45 and Edward Hosking 39 in their 163 all out before Kendall (5-27) and brother David (3-24) shared eight.
Openers Martin Budge (51no) and Josh Sample (33no) put on an unbroken 102 to guide Luckett Thirds to a 10-wicket victory at their Launceston counterparts, while Saltash Thirds thrashed St Stephen threes by 209 runs at Lux Park.
Andrew Rennie’s career best 81 not out saw the Ashes rack up 274-4 before Riley Stevens (3), Brody Williams (2) and Orlan Hartley (2) shared seven wickets.
Sunday’s action saw Tideford Seconds win by two wickets at Lanhydrock Thirds.
Finlay Basterfield’s 5-28 kept the hosts to 177 all out despite Jeyendiran Rajakulendiran’s 65, but Rufus Ford’s 85 saw Tideford to victory.
