THE new Liskeard Boxing Club has been officially opened.

MP Sheryll Murray and Liskeard Mayor Christina Whitty were at the club, based at the Methodist Church.

Founder Dean Crabtree said: ‘When I came to live in Liskeard I noted a gap in the market and that there was not a lot for the kids so I wanted to put something back into the community.’

The Club has two age groups, one for children aged eight to 16 another for adults aged 17-plus.

All classes are mixed and everyone is welcome, said Dean.

Mrs Murray said: ‘This really is a fantastic facility and I would like to thank Dean and his team for all the hard work they have put into this project in bringing it to the town. 

‘It is great to see excellent experience with ex-professional Danny Lawson on board.  It will create a good opportunity to undertake this Olympic sport at first-hand.’
