Liskeard Silver Band’s ‘Enthusiastic Young Player Award’ has been won by Katy Hollister, who is also the band’s youth representative. Roy Shufflebotham, training band conductor and principal cornet player, said he was delighted the award had gone to Katy, who has played in the band at a number of engagements. The training band, which is going from strength to strength, is rehearsing for the Lions carnivals and flora dances in both Liskeard and Looe. A forthcoming event for the band is their Abba concert at Liskeard Public Hall on Saturday, June 11, with guest performances from Louise’s School of Dance and the Melodyairs. There will be prizes for the best 1970s outfit and tickets can be obtained on the door or at the Liskeard Tourist Information Office. New players of all abilities are still welcome in both the junior and senior band. Tuition and the loan of a brass instrument are provided free of charge. Rehearsals are held in the Salvation Army Hall in Church Street on Fridays from 6.15pm- 7.15pm. Call Roy on 01579 349559.
