SALTASH'S Police Community Support Officer has been helping residents living in sheltered accommodation in the area. John Riggall has been visiting residents, checking that they have the correct locks and chains fitted as a precautionary measure against the threat of burglaries. Officer Riggall has also spoken to people living in sheltered accommodation about the possibility of distraction burglaries in an attempt to increase awareness of the crime, and hopefully, reduce the number of cases reported in the region. At a recent police liason meeting in Liskeard, the work of the Police Community Support Officers in and around South East Cornwall drew particular praise from some members of the public who said that the PCSOs' presence around Saltash and Callington in particular was 'reassuring' to many elderly and vulnerable residents, as well as to shopkeepers and local traders.
