The East Cornwall Foxhounds will be holding their annual Point to Point races this weekend at Great Trethew Manor, just off the A38.

The first race at the prestigious event, on Saturday February 12, will start at noon. A bar and refreshments will be available.

The initial race will be The Cornish Times cup which is for East Cornwall members.

Last year it was won by Tamar Lily, ridden by Mandy Barnett and owned by Miss Jackie du Plessis. Second was The Kimbler, ridden by Susan Young and owned by B S Young and K Rogers, while Reptile Princess, ridden and owned by Wizzie Doyne-Ditmuss, was third.

Other races on the day's calendar will be Confined Hunts Maiden Div 1, Confined Hunts Maiden Div 2, the Men's Open, the Ladies' Open, the Intermediate race, Restricted Div l, Restricted Div 2 and Confined Hunts.

Last year the best turned out horse for the first race was Linton, owned and led by Jill Diggory of North Hill with W Hill in the saddle.

Highlight of the l999 meet was a close finish during the Men's Open race in which Kelvin Herd on The General's Drum narrowly beat his brother's mount, Rastaman.

Other winners on the day were Milla's Man (Tim Dennis), Post As You Like (Polly Curling), Knight of Passion (Pip Jones), Still More Business (Tim Mitchell), Our Tommy (Tim Mitchell), The Hobbit (Tim Mitchell) and Valnau (Neil Harris).

The Cornish Times cup was presented to Jackie du Plessis by the paper's general manager, Jan Eagle. Jackie also received the Claude Hooper memorial challenge cup.
