CORNWALL has been battered by severe gales and heavy rain overnight, leading to travel chaos this morning.

The A38 in the Glynn Valley has been closed in both directions between Dobwalls and Carminow Cross because of fallen trees.

Trees have been blocking or partially blocking other roads around the area, including the B3254 Liskeard to Launceston road at Upton Cross and the A374 between Antony and Sheviock. A lorry overturned on the A30 near Bodmin.

More than 4,000 homes in Cornwall are without power this morning, according to Western Power, who are working to restore supplies.

On the railways, there were delays after the line between Par and Penzance was closed because of fallen trees. Trains are back to normal now.
