CALLINGTON Lions have organised a last-minute “virtual honey fair” following the cancellation of the traditional annual event in the town due to the coronavirus restrictions.

Activities planned can be found on the Callington Lions Facebook page and include: a bee poster hunt around the town; an art competition for schoolchildren with a theme of “Bee Happy”; a school mufti day; and a raffle to replenish the funds normally made on Honey Fair Day, with proceeds to local good causes. Videos from a local beehive, from Honey Fair founder John Trevithick, from Callington Town Crier and from last year’s entertainment can be watched on the Lions’ Facebook page.

The fair is set to be officially opened by Laurence Reed on BBC Radio Cornwall today.

Lions Club spokesperson Derek Prickett said: “As a last minute exercise, we have come up with the idea of doing a ‘Virtual Honey Fair’ on Facebook with the aim of bringing a little cheer in these virus times.

“We are trying to have a fun week with the emphasis on Bee Happy.”
