A CHEQUE for £15,000 has this week been presented to Looe Community School on behalf of East Looe Town Trust, by the chairman, David Bryan. The money is to honour the pledge made by the Trust in support of the school's successful bid to gain Performing Arts Status. However, there is concern that the new build, which will include a theatre, was originally priced at £450,000 but due to spiralling costs is now set to reach £650,000, an extra £200,000. School head, Helga Turner, said the increase was down to the bid taking some time from its inception to fruition with some government intervention along the way. 'The school will not be jeopardised and the build will go ahead, come what may,' she said. Wally Scarah, Trust manager, and a strong supporter of the Performing Arts Status, said unless the money is found somewhere, it will have to be taken from the school's own building fund over the next three years. 'I implore anyone who can help out financially in any way, large or small, to contact the school. This is very important for the Looe community,' he said.
