Tributes were paid to a founder member of the Celliwik Evergreens during a recent meeting of the club.
The Reverend William Cox – or Willie as he was known – died on April 20 at the age of 92. He was a true gentleman who will be missed by all in the club, as well as many people in Callington, said Barbara Thorpe.
‘William was always ready to lead us in prayer at the start of meetings and say grace at our Christmas meals,’ she said.
‘He would stand in if a speaker could not get to a meeting, giving us very interesting talks. He loved going on trips, and was always ready with a big smile and a joke.’
As well as being one of the original members of the Celliwik Evergreens, Rev Cox took on the roles of vice chairman and chairman during his years with the club.
