LISKEARD martial artists were among those who travelled from all over the South West to receive top-class European guidance at the sixth Open Jujitsu Workshop at Tavistock College.

Fifty-three students attended the event – organised by Ju Jitsu Tavistock – with some travelling as far as away as Clevedon in Somerset to learn from Italian guest instructors Piero Rovigatti and Davide Conti, who are ranked eighth and fifth respectively in the art of Ju Jitsu.

Club instructor Umberto Bergonzini said: 'It was another great event which everybody enjoyed – I think this was probably the largest martial arts gathering which has taken place in Tavistock.

'I would like to thank all the participants for making the day such a success and my thanks also go to the college for making their facilities available to help Tavistock in consolidating its position as a highly professional place to train in martial arts.'

The club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Scout Hall in Pixon Lane. Anyone interested in joining can contact Umberto on 07866 720 361 or come to one of the classes.
