Socks for horses

CLEAN old socks are wanted to help rescued horses. The socks will be used to keep the dressings on poorly animals. People in Torpoint can drop socks into Amy's Pet & Garden Centre in Fore Street. Socks can also be handed in at the shop in Crafthole or to Judith Cocks of Bramble Patch, Portwrinkle.

Plant sale

A PLANT identification service will be available from David Fenwick at the WI Market Plant Sale in Torpoint Silver Band Hut on Saturday, April 7, from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Parent and Child group

A PARENT and child group was starting this month at Cornerstone Playgroup in Torpoint. The group will meet during school term time on Thursday mornings between 10 and 11.30. For more information, telephone 01752 812244.

THE Torpoint Players' next production is to be Oscar Wilde's 'The Importance of Being Earnest'.

The producer is to be Tony Bowditch who said the Players are already looking forward to donning their lavish Victorian costumes, but added that the search is on for several authentic artefacts for the play, notably a two or three tier wooden cake stand, a metal watering can - and a large black leather handbag.

The play will be performed in the council chambers, Torpoint, from May 10-12. Tickets will be on sale from late April.

Scout Job week

CUB Scouts and Beavers are continuing their Job Week fundraising activities in Torpoint. Tomorrow (Saturday, March 31) there will be a coffee morning in the Scout Hut between 10am and noon. Meanwhile, between 10am and 2pm some of the youngsters will be taking part in a car wash at the town's fire station, charging £3 a vehicle.

Radioactve discharges

TWO surgeries about radioactive discharges from Devonport Dockyard will be held in Torpoint on Tuesday (April 3). Staff from the Environment Agency will be available to answers questions from groups and individuals at the Council Chambers in York Road at 9.30am-1pm and 4pm-8pm.

People wishing to attend the surgeries, which are part of the public consultation process on plans to change the levels of nuclear discharges from the dockyard, should telephone 01392 444000 and ask for DML Consultation.

Security cameras

AN application to place two more security cameras at the Fort Picklecombe housing complex on the Rame Peninsula has been submitted to Caradon District Council.
