Matthew O’Brien, 16, from Shortlanesend, Truro is preparing to take part in a ‘Coast to Coast’ challenge, to raise funds for ALD Life. This 280-mile challenge will take place over four days between July 1 and 4 and will begin in Torpoint finishing three days later in Bude.

Keen cyclists are invited to cycle alongside Matthew throughout his journey: please contact Elena via [email protected] for more information.

ALD is an extremely complex and rare genetic terminal illness which mainly affects boys aged 4-10, but can also affect male teenagers and adult men. Although less severe, some men and women with the faulty or missing ABCD1 gene develop AMN, an incurable and disabling metabolic disorder which can lead to the loss of use of their legs, incontinence and impotency.
