Avid readers, film enthusiasts, foodies and keen walkers who are all part of a thriving social group in Looe came together via Zoom for the first time.

Looe and District U3A declared itself fully ’open for business’ as 45 people were able to attend a full members meeting online.

Chairman Christine Barwell was pleased to report that several groups have continued by email or internet, and some are restarting following the lifting of government regulations. These include the Gorgeous Grub Group, Fabulous Foodies, Recorders, some of the Walkers, Tennis, Poetry and Book Club.

The following new digital groups are also set to launch: Arts and Crafts, Wine Club (contact Chris Barwell), Film Club (contact Frances Bailey) and Desert Island Discs (contact Rosemary Robinson).

There was a detailed community update from Nick Bailey, who reported the opening of three new businesses in Looe, a two-day opening of Looe Museum, and VJ Day at Lanreath .

Speaker Richard Haigh, a retired headmaster from South Devon, then gave a light- hearted history of Italian food, with the aid of some amusing video clips.
