There was an exciting close finish in the Adam King Joinery-sponsored Isaac Foot Cup first round match between Liskeard and St Neot.

St Neot won the toss and elected to field. Liskeard got away to a good start and after 10 overs were 68-3, Jim Maunder 21 (15 balls) and Charlie Coates hitting 12 at a Coates typical strike rate of 200%.

Sam Davidson was anchoring the innings but was bowled in the 18th over by Mark Bunt when on 49 (40 balls 3 sixes, 4 fours). The last ten overs yielded 78 runs and 6 wickets including two hat-trick ball chances for Bunt (5-0-42-4). Liskeard posted 146 for 9.

St Neot’s chase stuttered and they found themselves 43 for 3 after 9 overs

Opener Andrew Tamblyn was joined by Andrew Dickerson in the 9th over and they put on exactly 100 when Tamblyn 78 (71 balls 4 sixes, 9 fours) was bowled first ball of the final over by Maunder. St Neot needed 4 to win off 5 balls, Maunder bowled a dot, then bowled Mark Blatchford. Jack Kent joined Dickerson in the middle and they scrambled a single, 3 runs required from 2 deliveries. They tried to run another quick single and Dickerson was run out for 40 (34). Last ball, still 3 required and Kent pulls it to the mid-wicket boundary for four.

A fantastic finish to a game played in great spirit and St Neot are the first team to book a place for the finals day on July 10 at Callington.

Next Thursday, June 9, sees Launceston play Duloe.
