A first-half display of clinical finishing saw the Ashes claim a home tie against Penzance after this entertaining Vase replay at Kimberley Stadium.

The game was an enthralling one as Falmouth were never out of it, despite being 3-1 down at the interval, and the Ashes' defence, in which Chris Menhennick and Dave Smith were outstanding, held firm. The game also had a special moment as striker Marc Thorne completed his 100 goals for the Ashes when he notched his second of the night in spectacular style.

Falmouth started brightly and it was slightly against the run of play that the impressive Sam Wright's cross was headed home at the far post by Thorne on 15 minutes. But the celebrations were saved for his second, three minutes later.

Carlton Farnham fired the ball across from the left-wing for Sam Hughes to head on and it was Thorne who arrived at the far post to smash a waist-high volley across Town 'keeper Jason Chapman and inside the opposite post.

Town hit back and were denied a penalty shout when Liam Eddy went down in the area, but the visiting striker had better luck on 31 minutes when he again went sprawling, allowing Mark Vercesi to send Paul Hider the wrong way from his spot-kick.

Falmouth were now in the ascendency but they were rocked as Farnham dispossessed Johnny Ludlam in midfield to race forward and draw Chapman before firing low into the corner.
