As a bit of a grumpy grandad myself, I agree with most of the thoughts of Tommy Bray (Cornish Times Letters, 04.12.09). However I would like to add the following. Please can we cut out all the nonsense concerning so-called manmade climate change. It is no secret that the weather and the temperature of the Earth has changed many times over thousands of years mostly without the help of man, Range Rovers and aeroplanes.
Recent reports from leading scientists mainly in the USA and Australia which are widely available on the internet but get insufficient publicity here, indicate that climate change is not manmade. There has been no warming during the last ten years and any warming during the last century has only been episodic.
One wonders if the so-called experts who were telling us a few years ago that we were rapidly heading for another ice age are the same ones who are now predicting global warming?
The recent leaked emails from the University of East Anglia suggest that evidence has been falsified in an attempt to prove that climate change is manmade.
Laughably, the Met Office which receives millions of pounds of our money for super computers and research has issued detailed doom and gloom predictions for the weather in 50 years' time but more often than not its staff are unable to forecast it correctly for a couple of days ahead!
Surely the public are intelligent enough to realise that the new religion of climate change is politically led and and they are being brainwashed by it.
If it was not rammed down our throats every day by the Government and the media, I doubt if most people in this country would be aware of it.
We are governed by an excessive number of MPs, many of who lose any common sense they may have had before they were elected. And given their collective track record of dishonesty, lies and deceit, who can believe anything a government minister or an MP says?
However, by taking us back to the Middle Ages, turning us into vegetarians – as cattle breaking wind allegedly causes global warming – and taxing us to the hilt with green measures which he hopes that the public will gladly accept, no doubt Prime Minister Brown will again be telling us that he has 'saved the world'.
