STAFF at Woolworths in Liskeard have thanked customers for their support following the closure of the store on Tuesday.
The last day of trading saw prices slashed by up to 80 per cent in an attempt to clear any last remaining items.
Customers emptied the store and were even removing shelving and wall panels.
Manager Sandra Cole said: 'The staff have been great.
'This is not a good time of year for this to happen but they have carried on coming into work.'
A sign at the entrance read: 'Farewell to all our customers from all the staff at Liskeard Woolworths'. It was signed by all of the staff.
Dave Newby, from Liskeard, was the last customer at the store and spent £1.21.
He said: 'Obviously it's sad to see it go and I wish the staff all the best.'
The doors were finally shut at 5.30pm although staff were required to stay until 8pm to clear up the last of the stock.
