TORPOINT Twinners' French counterparts arrived in the town on Wednesday, May 4. Saturday was the highlight of the weekend when the French visitors were delighted to be able to share the military spectacle presented by the Royal Marines in Plymouth City Centre. There was a barn dance at the Council Chambers, Torpoint, on Saturday night with the music provided by a local group, Fox Among The Chickens. The evening started with a short speech by Eric Fincher, chairman of the Torpoint Twinning Association, in praise of the union of the two towns. The French 'presidente', Elisabeth Rosen, responded and presented Torpoint with a large basket packed with Breton produce for use, to help raise funds for the Torpoint association. After the speeches, the band struck up and people of all ages gathered together to enjoy the dancing. A surprise cabaret was presented by the 'Benodetoise', both men and women dressed in black tights, red and green net skirts and white T-shirts. This was a very amusing, unique, modern and colourful rendering of the can-can and music was provided by Fox Among The Chickens. A buffet super was provided by the members, each host family brought a plate of food. The final event of the weekend was a Sunday lunch at St Mellion Golf and Country Club. The red white and blue theme in the restaurant was the dual link of national colours.
