Cornwall's County teams enjoyed mixed results in the final group games of the 2008-09 season on Sunday against Somerset at Wincanton.

The A Team completed the group stages with a with a strong performance, claiming a 26 points and 195 shots to 14 points and 158 shots victory.

The first session saw the points shared, following wins for Peter Spargo in the singles (16-4) and Carolyn Matthews and Pam Williams in the pairs (20-9).

The second session saw both triples claiming results – Robert Flower, Derek Swaby and Norman Ward (12-7), along with Pam Hamley, Jean Roper and Peter Hamley (14-8).

At the midway point in the match, the score stood at Somerset eight points and 84 shots, Cornwall eight points and 101 shots.

The Duchy team took control of the match in the third session, claiming three out of four games, with wins in the singles for Spargo (17-6) and pairs for Matthews and Williams (16-10), as well as Joyce Ward and Miriam Barbery (12-10).

Superior scoring also saw Cornwall claim the bonus points in both disciplines.

An equally dominant final session, with victories in the triples for Flower, Swaby and Ward (9-8) and both fours Camilla Cawrse, Meg Horrell, Ken Horrell and Phil Hicks (10-6) and Sheila Hodge, Tony Jago, Brenda Sleep and Derek Newton (12-9) saw Cornwall secure the match. The triples also claimed the bonus points, while the fours missed out by a single shot.

Cornwall finished the group stage of the competition on 124 points in third place to claim a spot in the quarter-finals of the consolation competition.
