A POSTER designed by a Callington Community College pupil could now become the town's next mural. Year 9 students at Callington Community College entered posters for the Lions International Youth Peace Poster 2006 competition. This is an annual event organised by the Lions and the theme for the poster was Celebrating Peace. Youngsters also had to write a short piece about what peace means for them. The Lions Club of Callington selected two posters to go forward to district and the one selected was Ben Gill's and Harriet Smith was runner up. Ben's poster will now be entered for the Regional competition. The two students were presented with a certificate of achievement and a gift from the Lions in recognition of the work they had done by Mervyn White, chairman of the Lions youth team and Hazel Jones, also a member of the Lions youth team and David Jones, past president, who was representing the present president. The Lions Club are also hoping that Ben's poster will become of the town's murals. The design has been sent to Caradon District Council and planning permission is being sought as a location has already been found.
