St Cleer came into their last game of the season still searching for their first win – and they duly delivered in some style.
They beat Saltash 8-1 in Wrigley's Devon Under 11's Junior and Minor League.
Early first-half exchanges saw the Saltash team take the lead, but a good ball in from the right saw Adam Vernon level matters for the Saints as the sides went in level at half-time.
The second period was all St Cleer, as two quick goals from Josh Doney and a another from Vernon saw them take a commanding 4-1 lead.
The hosts' midfield took control of the game, as an unfortunate own-goal was followed by a goal from Garion Field and two from Luke Allen.
Saints' manager Stuart Chorlton paid tribute to the Ashes, admitting: 'Credit must go to the Saltash team, who did not give up at any time during the game and on a number of occasions were close to adding to their score.'
