Flying start to Pensilva Summer season
THE Pensilva Summer Skittles season got off to a flying start last Monday with all ten teams of four competing at the Millennium Centre where two alleys were in use.
Two teams recorded maximum 6-0 victories and head the early league table.
The G.A.S. (Gerry's Appreciation Society! Captain - Gavin Cole) team of four pulled off a surprise victory over Gremlins (Captain - Andy Hassam) due mainly to Bernie Swinbourne who accounted for 88 pins which included five spares.
The newly named team True Brits (Captain - Colin Britten) were the other team to secure all six points at stake as they really got the better of the Wreckers (Captain - Ken Couchman) with an overall 45 pin majority.
First game of the evening saw the Potholers (Captain - Gerry Edwards) drawn against the newly formed team called What's That (Captain - Lynda Jeffery) who secured two points in the first half, thanks to Mary Stephens who had an 18 spare, but Potholers were the improved team in the second period to record the highest pin fall of the evening and four valuable points.
Another new look team Bodmin Beasts (Captain - Richard Haynes) also trailed at half time to the Latecomers (Captain - Dennis Coniam), but knocked over six more pins than their opponents in the second half and ended up 4-2 point winners in just three pins.
The Bodmin Landers (Captain - Mavis Jeffery) held a healthy 27 pin majority after four legs of skittling against the Choughs (Captain - Margaret Edwards) who did show a marked improvement in the second half mainly due to new player Louise England who ended up with a 75 pin total, reducing that deficit by 11 pins, but still showing a 4-2 point win for those Landers.
