A SECRET Santa initiative has been launched in Looe to bring festive cheer to residents of all ages.

The aim is to provide children under 11 with a Secret Santa gift, as well as offering seasonal treats to nominated residents.

Mayor of Looe Martin Gregory said: “This year has been very difficult for everyone and we are intensely aware that some people have really struggled, so as a Council we wanted to do something to bring a little joy and warmth at this special time of the year.”

Deputy Mayor Edwina Hannaford, who proposed the idea, said: “The Council are hoping residents and businesses will rediscover the pleasure of giving so we can brighten someone’s day.” To donate money, people should visit https://uk.gofundme.com and look for “Looe Secret Santa Campaign”. Alternatively, cash donations can be put through the letterbox of Looe Library and Community Hub on the Millpool in an envelope with your name and amount donated.

Meanwhile a “Secret Santa Cupboard” is ready and waiting at the Millpool for people to drop off new toys suitable for primary and nursery age children.

All children up to age 11 in the Looe parish are eligible for a Secret Santa gift: go to the Looe Town Council website to fill in a form for your child.

The website is also the place to nominate a local person of any age to receive a Christmas treat.
