EXCITEMENT is mounting as Saltash gets ready to put on a brand new outdoor event for its community.
SaltFest 2021 on July 31 will have a similar feel to Mayfair with more than 60 stalls lining Fore Street during the day, street food, and entertainment for all ages through the afternoon.
You’ll find 14 community organisations showcasing their activities in the town centre and a massive range of traders along with all the usual Fore Street shops to browse.
In the evening, Longstone Park will be the venue for a festival-style event with a large stage and a number of local bands including young people from Saltash Livewire. And headliners I Love Amp will definitely be bringing a party feel of celebration to the park, says co-organiser Hilary Frank.
Extra precautions will be taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including the placement of sanitisation stations and a one-way system around the town centre to avoid large groups gathering in any one place.
Ollie Crawford is a young person who has volunteered at various previous town events and says he is looking forward to July 31.
“I think that a new festival is going to be exciting for Saltash, and our community love having something to support and get behind. Any event that Hilary is a part of is easily going to be great and well run.”
Meanwhile, a call has gone out for volunteers to help the event run smoothly in Saltash.
The small organizing team needs people at various times throughout the day on July 31 to sell raffle tickets, welcome traders, support with marshalling and stewarding, and to run the information tent.
There’ll be a short volunteer training session today (Sunday July 25).
Organisers say: "Please join us at Studio 79 South West at 12noon to register, for a 12.30pm start for some basic stewarding training and some table top exercises.
You’ll be rewarded with lunch at SaltFest 2021, as well as a SALTFEST TEAM T-Shirt!"
With just a week to go, the committee has been stepping up its fundraising efforts for the festival by selling 6,000 raffle tickets, with cash prizes of £150, £100, and £50.
Tickets are currently on sale at Nicky’s Glow Beads, the Community Market, Saltash Scrapstore, The Bookshelf, and Eclectic at Home.
You can also purchase tickets online for another couple of days at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/saltfest-2021
