Extension proposed

for Saltash centre

A PLAN to alter and extend the Ashtorre Rock community centre in Saltash was due to be considered by Caradon councillors last night.

The proposal, by the Waterside Community Association, is to be debated by Caradon's planning control committee (east). It involves a first floor extension to provide a self-contained annexe with loft storage space, and a ground floor extension at the centre, in Tamar Street.

A report by council officers said an extended retaining stone wall would support a five sided extension to the hall/function room, used by the association for 'one-off' social events. An additional balcony would also be built over the extension. Storage of association equipment would take place in the loft space. The officers, who said the plan was considered appropriate for the building's prominent location by the 'grade one listed railway bridge', recommended approval subject to conditions.
