The long-neglected former Saltash Railway Station building will at last come back into public use after the town council confirmed it is buying back the property.

Mayor Hilary Frank said that the council had put in an offer of £165,000 which was accepted by the owner, Model Ltd.

Great Western Railway (GWR) will contribute £30,000 of the purchase price, said Cllr Frank.

’They are very keen to see passenger facilities there, so there will be a cafe and a waiting room as part of the plans.’

Other aspects of the project have yet to be finalised, but Cllr Frank said that the council was keen to see part of the building generate an income, perhaps through the creation of office space.
