St Dennis 1 Saltash United 2
SALTASH are within two victories of achieving over 100 goals and 100 points for the season after this workmanlike performance. The Ashes started well and were soon a goal in front when Malcolm Wills stepped up to convert a penalty after a surging run by Gareth Jones ended with him being brought down. Jones then made it 2-0 when he ran onto a through ball to slot it past the St Dennis goalkeeper. The second half was a different story as the Ashes seemed to take their foot off the pedal, allowing St Dennis to get back into the match. Despite Jones foraging away up front, Saltash were made to pay for relaxing when St Dennis pulled a goal back when the defence failed to pick up the home attackers and, in a flurry of bodies, a St Dennis player headed the ball past goalkeeper Jay Richmond. Saltash endured a couple of late scares but held on comfortably to take all three points. Ashes manager Tony Richardson said: 'I thought we played quite well in the first half but we were poor after the break. I suppose it's to be expected as we are coming to the end of a long season.'
