An event in Saltash has got its attendees singing this afternoon (December 20), as it remembers one of the town's historic figure.

William Odgers was the recipient of the first Victoria Cross awarded in New Zealand, and today's event, hosted by Barry Brooking, is remembering his work 150 years after his death.

As part of the occasion, attendees have even been singing sea shanties.
