THE Luggers made a colourful backdrop in Looe bay on Saturday, whilst on the sea front the resplendent sight of the newest Redwing to join the Looe traditional fleet stood gleaming in the sunlight for everyone to admire.
The naming ceremony of R246 Nightingale performed by proud owner, American sailor supreme Cecil Du Valle had everything, champagne, humour and even a well timed fly past by the R.A.F. to salute the new arrival.
Cecil will now be aiming to get the boat set up right for the Redwing Nationals at Fishguard in August.
When the racing got underway another close contest ensued over all three rounds between Bud Cootes, Clifford and Ben Crabbs, Maid Marion.
The lead changed hands several times before Bud finally got the better line to the final mark.

THE attraction in Looe Bay last Saturday was the June Cup Race. Wind conditions were stronger than recent races, coming from the North West.
All the fleet gathered for a mass start from the Committee Boat, moored out in the bay.
One Redwing, that of Peter Kinver managed to pass too close to the Committee Boat at the start with his crew, cousin Arthur out on the wire, who managed to get hooked up in the fishing rods on the boat and was promptly dumped in the drink. We won't ask where the hooks went.
Results: Redwings -1st Bud Coote & Tim Jackman; 2nd Ben Crabb & John Crabb; 3rd Colin Crabb & Dominic Lozyinski.
Enterprise - 1st Francis Marshall & Lisa Marshall; 2nd Steve Sargent & Sandi Turner; 3rd Graham Sargent & Philip Darlington.

When the hooter went Gareth Shaw sporting a new mast went into an early lead which he held until the second wind when Bud Coote finally overhauled him, to lead until the line.
