Saltash retained the Gary Nelson Memorial Trophy, played for annually on a home and away basis against a representative Navy PTI side in an open ended, close run affair under the Rectory lights.

Saltash had the better of the early play with winger Anthony Ruby running in a corner try and Nigel Owen adding a drop goal inside the first 15 minutes. Clayton Pattillia replied for the PTIs with a try on the half hour. Chris Reece converted and landed a penalty to give them a two point advantage at the change of ends.

A score either way after the break would have been enough to settle it as good defensive play kept both lines intact. And Saltash have hooker James Woodward to thank for getting the downward pressure on the end of a big forward drive with Ruby adding the extras for the result.
