While the feeling remains that this was not one of their better handling displays, Saltash did enough to keep their line intact and their eye firmly on the Cornwall Division One championship.

Falmouth were unfortunate to lose full-back James Williams with a dislocated thumb after five minutes. But to be quite fair, there was never any real doubt of the final outcome after Neil Westerman landed an early penalty for Saltash and followed closely with a touchline conversion for Nigel Owen after 20 minutes.

Julian Oakes made sixty yards from inside his own 22 before sending Peter Congo in for a try. Prop Rob Eatwell crossed on the end of a 20 yard dash and Westerman was a shade unlucky to hit the upright with the conversion.

The try of the game came on the hour, when, after a prolonged passage of hard Saltash forward play, and it was obvious a try was not forthcoming in the right hand corner, the ball was moved crossfield through seven pairs of hands for Anthony Ruby to dive over on the left.

Falmouth had a late purple patch when they might have had a late consolation but Owen had the final shout, running through at the other end to dot down almost unchallenged.
