The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester rounded off a day of engagements in Cornwall with a visit to HMS Raleigh yesterday.
During their time at the Royal Navy’s largest training base in the South West, The Duke of Gloucester was invited to inspect a guard of honour. The Royal couple also met trainee sailors from Crean Division.
Named after Warrant Officer Tom Crean, an Antarctic explorer who accompanied both Scott and Shackleton on their expeditions, the division provides care to recruits who have suffered injury or illness in training while they return to full fitness.
Recruit Adam George spoke to The Duke. Adam said: ’I’ve joined as an Aircrewman. The Duke asked me about my injury, my training and wished us all well. This was the first time I’d met any members of the royal family, so it was a bit exciting and they both were very pleasant.’
