Lostwithiel Rotary Club members will be out in the community to raise funds to help Rotary’s 30-year campaign to eradicate polio across the world.
The worldwide number of polio cases has dropped from 1,000 in the 1980s to just 78 so far this year which are in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Nigeria is the latest country to be declared polio free.
Rotarians will take part in a week of action around October 23. For every £1 the Rotary Club of Lostwithiel raises, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will contribute another £2. Lostwithiel Rotary has been at the forefront of clubs across Cornwall in taking advantage of the Gates multiplier and has effectively raised over £30,000.
