THE sun shone and crowds turned out for the fifth Tea in the Park at Benodet Park of Friendship, Torpoint.

Wez Swain and Torpoint Scouting organised the family fun day with entertainment for everyone. Wez held his circus skills workshop, there were stalls, face painting, a bar and a barbecue.

In the evening there was entertainment from live bands.

The highlight of the afternoon was Scout leader Wez having his dreadlocks cut off to raise money for his expedition to the North Pole in 2014.

Wez, 32, has had his dreadlocks since being a teenager and faced the scissors with some trepidation. Everyone who donated £10 had the chance to cut one of his dreadlocks off.

The first cut was given to mayor Terry Moore and his predecessor cllr Eddie Andrews who had donated £400 from the mayor's charity fund towards the expedition.

The park was packed and people queued with their money to have a cut.

The last dreadlock was reserved for Wez's father Mark who said: 'I have been waiting 14 years to do this.'

The dreadlock cutting raised about £700 and the whole event is set to raise in the region of £2,000 towards the £200,000 needed for the 2014 expedition.
