Liberal Democrats in North Cornwall are celebrating after claiming new North Cornwall Conservative MP Scott Mann’s old Cornwall Council seat in Thursday’s Wadebridge West by-election.

Local NHS Radiographer Karen McHugh topped the poll with 604 votes (42.3%), with the Conservatives second on 356 (25.6%).

The Lib Dems say the result means Conservatives now have just one of the 21 Cornwall Councillors in the North Cornwall constituency. The Liberal Democrats have 17.
