IT’S time South East Cornwall had its fair share of funding – especially for safety improvements to the A38 in the wake of the Landrake tragedy.

That’s the call of a prominent local politician who this week told Cornwall Council’s leaders: ‘I feel strongly that East Cornwall and especially South East Cornwall are being neglected.’

In a letter to the council’s chief executive Kate Kennally and its leader Adam Paynter, independent Looe councillor Armand Toms said: ‘Having been asked about the recent tragic events on the A38 where three people were killed, I ask that priorities be changed to the A38 and further schemes be dropped on the A30.’

Cllr Toms copied his letter to fellow councillors representing South East Cornwall, saying: ‘It feels that the A38 is being missed out and also the funds to develop the economy in the area.’

He’s asked them to support him and suggest projects that could benefit the area so he can take them to a meeting on July 28.

Their response has been such that Cllr Toms is considering setting up a new working party to argue South East Cornwall’s case at county level and beyond.
